Many engineers spend months studying wireless technologies and still struggle when confronted with real enterprise problems. The issue usually isn’t effort. It’s focus. In my experience working with enterprise wireless teams and certification candidates, many 350-101 WLCOR candidates invest heavily in topics that matter while overlooking the skills that consume most of a wireless engineer’s day.
That’s the gap worth discussing.
This isn’t an exam problem. It’s an industry problem.

There is a pattern I continue to see among engineers entering the modern CCNP Wirelesstrack.

Networking is no longer just about configuring routers through the command line. The industry is rapidly shifting toward automation-driven infrastructure, where networks behave more like software systems than static hardware environments. Engineers are now expected to write scripts, integrate APIs, and automate repetitive network tasks.
This shift is exactly why Cisco introduced the Cisco 200-901 exam, which validates automation skills rather than traditional CLI-heavy networking knowledge. Instead of focusing only on routing protocols or switching configuration, the exam measures how well you understand software-driven networking workflows.
Many certification guides still approach the exam like a traditional networking certification. They list the exam blueprint and encourage memorization. That approach rarely works here.
The reality is that the CCNAAUTO certification was designed to test how engineers think about automation. It’s less about remembering commands and more about understanding how systems interact through APIs, Python scripts, and structured data formats.
